Kling from the command line: what AI video costs and how to connect it

I connected the official Kling CLI to my server. Credit cost per second, plans, Russian voice-over and the gotchas.

I wanted AI video where the face and the scene do not drift from shot to shot. I picked Kling and worked out how to drive it with commands instead of the app.

Prices and terms change. The data below is from October 21, 2026, so check the pricing page before buying.

Can a subscription be connected to your own server

Yes. Kling has an official CLI and an MCP server. They spend the credits of a paid subscription rather than a separate API balance. Bonus credits do not work through them, and result links live for 24 hours, so download the file right away.

Signing in on a server without a browser

The CLI starts a browser sign-in and waits for a reply on a local address. A server has no browser, so I open the link on my phone and pass the address I was redirected to back to the server by hand. The token is stored in a file readable by one user only.

Credits per second

According to the official guide for the Video 3.0 model:

QualitySilentWith audio
720p6 credits per second9
1080p812

A voice adds 2 more credits per second. A 20-second 720p clip without sound is about 120 credits.

Which plan to pick

On the pricing page I saw Standard at about $10 (660 credits) and Pro at about $37 (3,000 credits), with a cheaper first month for new users. Yearly billing is roughly a third cheaper than monthly. Monthly is enough for a trial, and a year is worth buying only once you know you will use it.

Keeping the face and the scene consistent

Kling has Elements: you build a character from a few photos and then reference it in prompts. This is the main way to get the same person across shots. There is also a separate motion control feature for reference-driven movement.

Russian voice-over

Kling’s lip sync works in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Russian is not among them, so I record the voice-over separately and lay it over the video.

Gotchas

  • A running task cannot be cancelled and the credits are already spent. So I start a generation only after checking the prompt.
  • You need a paid plan, otherwise the CLI shows zero available credits.
  • Results live for a day, so download immediately.

Verdict

Kling fits automation well through its CLI, and Elements solve the main pain of AI video. The limits are Russian voice-over and no way to cancel a running task. Once I make my first clip I will add real spend figures to this article.
